Software testing is a crucial part of the development cycle, there’s no denying it. However, there may be some dispute over how it is being implemented within the cycle itself. While different approaches exist, agile methodologies are definitely on the rise. With the majority jumping on the Agile train, you may be asking yourself - why and is it worth it?

Agile testing and the use of Jira

Agile testing allows to ensure a quick delivery that is sustainable, but still maintains a high quality. In Agile, testers verify the code continuously and rapidly, at every stage of the software lifecycle, whereas developers get immediate feedback and focus on implementing fixes right away.

Jira, a tool first created for project management, is currently used in a variety of areas and that also includes software testing. Its capabilities allow testers to organize their tests and make them easier to follow. Users often have to customize their project to the testing needs - they create work item types, which reflect test cases, test plans, test steps, etc. The customization and optimization of testing workflows also lie in their hands. It all can be done, but it is also overwhelming, especially on a bigger scale.

Testing in cross-functional teams

Although, testing process involves mainly QA specialists and testers, the bigger the scale of testing and the company, the teams become more versatile. In such groups, with Product Owners, Stakeholders and e.g. Analysts present, the work that needs to be done - each testing element - may be allocated to different people. Testing in cross-functional teams may be an incredibly effective way to achieve set goals, however in situations like the one described above, using only Jira as a test management tool may be problematic.

Test Management tools

This is where implementing a test management tool can work wonders and lift the weight of testers shoulders when it comes to organization. Putting such an app to work helps meet the goals of agile testing: efficient collaboration between teams, streamlined testing process and faster product delivery. In the best scenario, each testing team will be able to find a tool that adjusts to their testing process and does not limit their abilities.

Welcome to ATM!

Appsvio Test Management (ATM) is the first 100% Forge test management app and a true extension of Jira capabilities. ATM aligns testing with software development cycle and can be tailored to your personal testing approaches. We have created this add-on for testers with our own testers, as we wanted it to be an app that enhances their skills, not hinders them. Dive deeper into app details in the pages below.
