Learn the most frequently asked questions about Issue Templates Agent.

Where do you store the data?

As Issue Templates Agent is built on Forge, we don't store your data. All data are stored on the Atlassian infrastructure. Templates data is stored in Jira (via UIM entities). The app configuration is stored via Forge Storage.

What data does the app store?

Our app stores the templates data.

Do templates work on native Create issue screen?

Yes! 🚀 You apply issue templates right on the Create issue screen.

How do you implement Jira issue templates?

With Issue Templates Agent is easy as pie 🍰 Create issue as always, and then choose a template you need in Templates field. In result, the template will be automatically applied.

Can I assign one template to many projects?

Yes, you can! Use multiproject function, and assign one template to many pairs of project and issue type. We recommend you not to duplicate Jira issue templates, but to use them across many Jira projects.

What permission are required to manage templates?

You have to be a Jira Administrator with global permissions. You can share permissions to other Jira users. Go to Manage app, find Issue Templates Agent, and go to App setting (on the left sidebar). Then, users can edit or delete templates.

Can I create a template with subtasks?

Very Soon! We're working on it. You will be able to create epic, story, task - all of subtasks, in the hierarchy according to Jira.

Do we need a dedicated project for templates to work?

No. All the templates are stored in templates library. You can apply them right away on the Create issue view.

How does the app handle "fix" and "component" fields?

Those two fields are supported. But remember:

  • If you have a version in the template which is archived, the Template can't be applied on the Create issue screen. You have to go to the template configuration and remove this version.

  • If you have a component in the template which is removed from project, the Template can't be applied on the Create issue screen. You have to go to the template configuration and remove this component.

Does the app supports custom fields?

Yes, of course. Discover full list of supported fields.

Does it handle epics and stories?

Yes. You can create epic, story, tasks, (and very soon substasks!), and all of issue types that are assigned to project.

How can I delete an issue template?

Go to the template library. Choose 3 dots in Actions column, and click delete.

Does deleting the template also delete the issues?

No. If you delete the templates, all issues created with it in the past will stay in the backlog or on the board.

How can I edit my templates?

Go to the template library. Choose 3 dots in Actions column, and click edit. Don't forget to save your changes! 😊

Is it possible to use variables in the templates?

Not yet, but we're working on that! Stay tuned ðŸ“Ģ

How to use categories in the app?

Add category to you template during template creation. Thanks to that you will be able to filter all the templates and find all of them in one category as f.e. "bug report". To filter all issue templates, select the Filter button and define your conditions.

How can I filter the templates?

To filter all issue templates, select the Filter button and define your conditions. You can filter them by categories: Category, Is Deafult, Issue Types, Projects, Template name

Does the user need any special permissions to use the template?

No. Every user with create issue permission, can apply templates on create issue view. But, if you want to edit or delete templates, you need Issue Templates Agent permissions. Ask your Jira Administrator for it.

Can emojis be used in the template?

Yes! Go crazy! ðŸĪŠ And emojis are great way for categorization. If you want to use emoji check how to do it for Windows and iOS. Remember that in Description and Paragraph (support rich text) a commend /emoji won't work.

What are some examples of template usage scenarios?

You can create f.e. bug reporting template, onboarding template, user story template, test plan template. Go to Templates Examples to get a ready-to-use content.
